Banana Pectinata Iguanas
Beautiful Yellow Color, Manageable Size and Exceptional Temperament
Banana Pectinata iguanas are selectively bred Mexican spiny-tailed iguanas prized for their brilliant yellow adult coloration, active personalities and manageable size.
Our Banana bloodline has been developed with a particular emphasis on temperament, color quality and long-term development. These animals have become extremely popular with keepers looking for a striking iguana that does not require as much space as a green iguana or one of the larger Cyclura species.
Our Banana Bloodline
Not all Mexican spiny-tailed iguanas are the same. Different bloodlines can vary considerably in color, adult size, growth rate and temperament.
Some bloodlines grow rapidly but may retain darker coloration or display more defensive behavior. Our breeding program places greater value on producing animals that are:
- Easier to handle and work with
- More consistent in temperament
- Selected for strong yellow coloration
- Structurally sound and healthy
- Developed for long-term quality rather than rapid early growth
This selective breeding has produced what we believe is one of the calmest and most attractive Banana Pectinata bloodlines available.
Their Color Develops with Age
Banana Pectinata hatchlings generally begin life green. Their characteristic yellow coloration develops gradually as they mature.
Many animals begin showing noticeable yellow at approximately 9 to 11 months of age, although the timing and intensity vary between individuals. This transformation is part of what makes raising a Banana Pectinata so rewarding.
We document our animals carefully and provide individual photographs, videos and descriptions so customers can see each iguana’s present coloration, development and distinguishing characteristics.
Hatchlings and Established Young Iguanas
Depending on current availability, we may offer:
- Farm-raised hatchlings
- Established juveniles and yearlings
- Males and females when sex can be reliably determined
- Individually photographed animals from select parent bloodlines
Because high-quality Banana Pectinatas remain in strong demand, particular ages and sexes may sell quickly.
Active, Hardy and Fascinating
Banana Pectinatas are alert, intelligent and highly active iguanas. They enjoy climbing, basking and investigating their environment.
With proper care and calm, regular interaction, they can become exceptionally tame and rewarding animals. Their smaller adult size makes them easier to accommodate than green iguanas and many Cyclura species, including for keepers with limited indoor space or those living in northern climates.
A Varied Omnivorous Diet
Our hatchlings are started on a varied diet of leafy greens, vegetables, crickets and worms.
Young Pectinata iguanas consume both plant matter and animal protein. As they mature, leafy greens and vegetables become increasingly important, while insects are reduced and offered more as an occasional supplement.
